  • Energy crunch for UK power in seven years

  • Steve Holliday, chief executive of National Grid told the Times newspaper that Britain could face regular blackouts within seven years if the Government does not intervene to prevent an energy gap that will be created by future power station closures. The warning came after Ofgem, the energy industry regulator, said it was to consider fresh incentives to encourage the development of renewable energy schemes in Britain.

    Pellets

A hand full of wood pelletsGenerally pellets are compressed sawdust or very small bits of wood that are held together by their own moisture (i.e. sap or resin) due to the pressure that they are put under. They come out of the machine a bit like a butchers mincing machine. The standard diameter of pellet is 6 –8 mm.

    A bag of wood pellets

Pellets can be bought bagged (generally between 10kg to 15kg per bag) or ‘loose’ in 1 tonne bags. Pellets must be kept dry as their burning efficiency deteriorates the damper they are as well as causing problems with the pellet stove feed mechanism.

Sky Flair recommend Bowland Bioenergy's pellets for our stoves as they not only offer a local source of pellets from managed woodland but are of a consistent quality.
